Day 7 -- Sales Process Automation

Welcome back to your home business tips blog. We are now on the final day of the "starting a work at home business" 7 day course.

Today is going to be about how to setup your ordering process, so visitors to your website can buy whatever product or service you are selling.

The most common way people sell digital (meaning ebooks, software, etc..) items from their sites, is to use a 3rd party merchant called Clickbank.

I like clickbank because of what they offer. You can completely make it automatic, and as soon as you sell ONE product, your item(s) are listed in their affiliate database. Why is this important? Well, what this does is give your product a lot of exposure! Having affiliates promoting your products are one of the BEST ways to make money. So that is, in itself, one of the best things about clickbank because numerous peope visit clickbank everyday to find products to promote and/or buy.

So, How do you use clickbank?

Well, it's actually really simple.

First thing you'll want to do is setup an account with them. There is a one-time fee of about $49.95 and then they will allow you to sell your items in their database.

This is pretty cheap because merchant accounts can have an upfront cost of up to $300 and a monthly fee of up to $150 per month or more. In my honest opinion, I say DON'T DO IT!

Alrighty, now... After you setup your account with clickbank, and login, you'll want to first get a feel of the backroom and see how it works and all that good stuff.

Then you'll want to set it up to get the ordering automatic... Because that's what it's all about!

1) Go to your account and you'll see a few "blank" bars that you can type in to.

What you want to do here is tell clickbank where they will send a customer after they have purchased your product. Why is this important? Well, because you'll get a lot of complaints if your customers don't get the product they ordered!

2) To the right of this bar, you'll see another with the price of $0.00

This is where you can price your product. You can price this whatever you like... However, you need to email clickbank (all info is in your user account) and tell them you'd like a "price limit increase" so you can sell your product for more than
$0.00

3) After the email is sent, and they get back to you, you're all set!

That's right, it really is that easy. You type in your download page, set the price, and their system works for you.

Why is this so darn great?

1) You get to sell your products online.
2) After one sale, your product gets exposure (hence, you'll get affiliates promoting your product)
3) Your ordering process will be completely automatic, leaving you with time to do other things that will keep you proactive with your business!

Day 6 -- Automating Your Online Business

Welcome back to the "Starting a Work at Home Business" course. If you are just joining us we have been discussing the steps needed to start an online home business and/or get a new online business going smoothly. You can scroll down to find the rest of the lessons... there will be 7 total and this is #6.


Ok, lets get on with the next online work at home business lesson...


Today we're going to be talking about how to keep your business on "autopilot" so you can acutually have some extra time for yourself instead of needing to constantly be at your computer working on your business.


The best way to create a very nice income online is to automate as many things as possible, so you save yourself that time to do things you do best... like marketing or just having fun!


One of the best internet marketing inventions was the autoresponder and it is the best way to automate your online business.


The definition of an autoresponder is simple... heck, the title defines itself. An autoresonder literally "responds automatically." You just need to set it to "go" and forget about it!


You write up an ecourse or any other type of follow-up information, copy and paste the messages into your autoresponder, set the days you want your prospects to receive them, and presto... It's on autopilot!


You can go to any search engine and find MANY autoresponders. There's too many to choose from but only a handful of them are worth their salt. To save you time & money, I will just tell you that the best autoresponder out there on the market today is Aweber. Here's the link for you:

Here's some advice that you will definitely want to use once you get things set up with your website...


When you get customers, you will always want to stay in contact with them... Why? Well, it's rather simple... If a customer buys from you once, the chances of that same customer buying from you again is very likely. So, the best thing you could possibly do is to at least get their contact information!


You will certainly want to know their first and last name, and their email address so you can stay in touch with them. It's pretty easy to figure out why... do you want to know?


Well here you go... because later on down the road, when you have either another product you want them to know about (and sell to them), or you just joined a great affiliate program that has a great product they might be interested in buying (which you get comissions on) you'll be able to simply email ALL your customers (your list) with your offer.


So, what's the best way to get your customers name and email
address?


You know, I am glad you asked that!


The best way, is to have a contact form (your autoresponder should provide you with the code for this - Aweber does) that you place on your "customer capture page". After they pay you for their purchase, you'll send them to this page. Then they'll fill out the form, and then you send them to the download page where they can download the product they just purchased from you!


Now THAT is how it's supposed to be done my friends!

Day 5 -- Uploading Your Website Files

Welcome back to your business tips blog. We are now on day 5 of the "starting a work at home business" 7 day course. I apologize for the delay between days 4 and 5 but I have been swamped with business tasks!

If you have missed any of the lessons so far, I encourage you to scroll down and read them. They will help you with the basics of getting going with your online home business.

The past few days we have talked about getting a domain name, finding a web host, how many pages to have in your website, etc...

Today we are going to discuss how to actually upload your files (pages) to your website.

We will talk about how to do it with an FTP Client.

You may be saying, "what is an FTP client?" Well, there is a long technical definition to it, but I will spare you the bore and just tell you that an FTP client is basically just a way to copy files from your computer to your webhost.

Heck, I don't even really know how it works... nor do I care how it works as long as I know how to use it and that is the only thing you will need to know.

Basically, when you register with a webhost (discussed in Day 3), they will give you a "username" and "password" for logging into the control panel of your website.

When you download an FTP client to your computer, you will simply login to the FTP client using the username and password that your webhost gave you. When you do this you will notice two things...

1) You will see files on your computer

2) You will see files on your website

The whole purpose of an FTP client is to get the files from your computer, to your website.

Here are a few really good FTP clients that you can check out. They all have free evaluation periods so you can use them at first without paying anything...

When uploading files (tranferring files from your computer to your website), remember that they must have an extension on them for it to be "live" on your website and on the internet.

You've seen these extensions many times at every website you go to whether you realized it or not. The most common are: .htm, .html, and .php

For example, you can see one of my websites ends with .html ...

This is very important, because if you don't do this, your website won't actually show up on the internet.

Day 4 -- Sellable Website

Well, here we are back at the business tips blog and the series we are on called the "starting a work at home business" -- 7 day course.

I hope the couple days since the last posting has been great for you! They have been for me.

I am a little tired today and I still have a bunch of things to do before bed so I am just gonna get going without further delay.

The business tip in todays "starting a work at home business" course is... Creating a Sellable Website!

Creating a sellable website and getting people to read your website without leaving within the first few seconds should be one of your main focus points when starting an online home business!

Large content sites (like the one this blog is hosted on) are very good for many reasons and great for building a long-term solid search engine optimized website. However, when you are just getting going and want to get in profit more quickly, you will probably sell information products on a mini-site.

When selling information products, the majority of people only build one to three page mini-sites to let the visitor know about what it is they are selling or giving away.

It's been tested, and the majority of the time a prospect is MORE likely to purchase your product, or a product you're an affiliate of, if there are less than 5 pages in the site. I'm not entirely sure why, but I'm guessing it has to do with humans being impatient and greedy.

Most people want their information now, and if you can't give it to them, they will go somewhere else.

So, That brings us the first main point.

1) Your Headline

A headline is one of the most important aspect to your mini-site.
Why? Because it will do one of two things...

Keep Your Visitor Reading
** or **
Make them leave

Obviously the first one is what you are looking for!

The best way to keep them reading is to have an attention grabbing headline that sells a benefit they are looking for in it. Another good thing is to have the headline in red because it grabs the attention of your visitor.

Another AWESOME way to increase your mini-site sales is to include testimonials in your sales copy.

Testimonials are a sure way to increase to responsiveness of your site. However, be careful when placing some testimonials on your site. Not all testimonials are created equal.

You want your testimonials to be real, down to earth, feedbacks from your customers or business associates. They need to be believable and reassure your visitors that you are someone worth doing business with or that your product really does work.

You don't want hype in your testimonial because your visitors will think it is fake, even if it is not. Don't put hidden ads on your site disguised as testimonials and certainly don't make them up yourself. If you have a lot of them you can maybe put one or two full of hype just to really "push" your product but don't do them all that way.

Day 3 -- Hosting

Welcome back to the 7 day "starting your work at home business" course.

Today we will be talking about how to find a host for your website.

After you have chosen several good domain names (discussed in Day 2), you should narrow it down to just one. After you have registered it, you should begin the next step with your online home business.

What is the next step? ... Getting A Web Host to host your website!

Ok so you may be saying, "what exactly is a web host?"

You are in luck because I am going to tell you....


The definition of a web host is... a service that allows you to upload and store a sites HTML documents and other related files on a Web server.

However, in everyday terms, it's the way that anyone in the world can actually access your website.

If you don't have a web host to host your domain and website, you won't be able to proceed. As you can see, it is a very important step in starting an online work at home business.

Here are some good things to think about when searching for a web host...

1) Speed

If you are worried about the speeds that a viewer can see your site (you should be), then you need to consider how fast the hosts servers are.

2) Customer Support

Support is another important issue to consider when shopping for a good web host. Hosts offer a variety of customer support options, such as... 24-hour toll free number, 24-hour email help, Frequently Asked Questions pages, and help forums. The more options they have for support, the better it is for you if something goes wrong or you can't figure something out.

3) Reliability

The reliability of a host is one of the most important things to look for. Be sure that your host has several backup systems in case something goes wrong with the main servers.

A general rule of thumb is to make sure your web host has at least a 97% uptime guarantee. So, if you find that your site is "offline" more than 3%, they will offer money back, or something else of equal value, to keep you satisfied.


Lucky for you, you won't need to go in search for a good web host. Why Not? Because I have already done the majority of the work and found the very best ones for online work at home business owners.

Day 2 -- Getting Started

Welcome back to the business tips blog and your "starting a work at home business" seven day course!

If you remember (or go back and read) on day one of the course we talked about defining your reason for starting your business. That business tip is very important.

Today we are going to discuss another important step -- the step of actually getting started with your business.

So, here is day 2 -- "Getting Started Online"

Today's lesson is actually very basic to getting started in an online business, however, many people still overlook it, or fail to realize it, until they have already supposedly "started" their business but got nowhere.

So what is it? It's called getting a "Domain Name".

So, what exactly is a Domain Name?

Well, there some technical terms for it but all anyone really needs to know is that it is the name that identifies a site, or a link that you type in to your address bar to get to the site. For example, one of my domain names is:

http://www.home-business-team.com

It's very important that you create and online presence for yourself and your business. The best way to do this is with a website and the start of a website is getting a domain name.

I highly recommend you go and grab yourself a domain name as soon as you can. One of the best places for doing this is http://www.godaddy.com

Now, what should your domain name be?

Well, you can have anything you want (as long as it is available) but I recommend something like this as an example...

Let's say you are interested in building a Dog website that will promote dog toys, dog training information, dog products, and other dog stuff...

Then you would want the domain name to reflect what it is you're website is about.

So, a few examples of good domains for your Dog Website might be:

dogproducts.com
thedogstore.com
doginformation.com

(please note that the above domain names are probably already taken. I don't know, I didn't check. I only listed them as examples)

It's also very important that you get a domain name that ends in .com because people see those as being the most credible and that is what most people will type in to find your site if they can't quite remember exactly what your domain was. You will see all sorts of other endings like .net , .info , .biz , .ws -- etc... but you should stay away from them as much as possible and stick with the .com

Starting a Work at Home Business - Day One

Hello everyone and welcome back to the "business tips blog." I hope you all had a safe and happy new year!

For the start of 2005, I have decided to write, and post for you, a 7-day course on how to start a work at home business -- quickly, honestly, and efficiently.

I will post one lesson every two or three days over the next few weeks. For those of you new to starting a business this should be very helpful in getting you going. For those of you who have been running your business for a while... consider this a refresher course - you might even pick up on some tips you missed!

Here is Day 1 - Defining Your Reason...

Do you know the step that is often overlooked but is probably the single most important step to starting an online home business?

It's called your "Reason"

What is your "reason"? Well, it's simply that...

Your Reasoning for, or why, you want to start a home business!

Do any of the following statements sound familiar to you?

"I want to not have to answer to a boss anymore"
"I want to get out of debt"
"I want to go on a vacation"
"I want to provide a better lifestyle for my family"
"I want to buy a new car or some new toys"
"I want to quit my dead end job"
"I want to be in control of my financial future"
"I want to simply make more money on my own terms"
"I want to spend more time with my family and friends"

Did any of these situations sound like your desires?

If so, select the BEST one. This statement is your reason, your desire, your goal, and your ultimate passion from now on!

That's the reason you want to work at home with your own home based business.

Now, this is what you need to do...

WRITE IT DOWN! Yes, that's right... write your "reason" on a piece of paper, and put it where you'll see it, and read it, every day. This is to constantly remind yourself of your goal. Keep it on your office desk (until you are able to quit your job), your mirror, your fridge, your computer desk, your kitchen table... Put it EVERYWHERE!

Goals and Desires are a very important part of any person's success. It's important to keep focused and to do everything it takes to reach your goals.

Another thing that is VERY important is to keep a regular schedule and a business plan that you will stick with day in and day out (except when you are on your newly affordable vacation).
